Welcome back to The Binomial Effect.
When this experiment started, the room was basically empty — one subscriber, and it was me, the admin account. I told you from the first issue that I'd show the real numbers either way, full room or empty.
This week, the room isn't empty anymore.
If you're reading this, there's a decent chance you're the reason a number moved. The newsletter line went from 1 to 2. That second 1 is a real person who chose to witness this. I'm not going to pretend that's a crowd — it's not. But one and zero aren't neighbors. They're different worlds. And this week, I crossed into the second one on every channel.
Let's stack some 1s.
01 — THE WEEKLY EXPERIMENT
Every channel crossed zero
Three weeks ago, every number I had was a 0. No subscribers, no followers, no traffic — just a logo and a thesis.
Here's where it stands now. Not "impressive." Just true:
YouTube — first subscriber
X — first followers
Newsletter — a real subscriber (you)
TikTok — first follower
Instagram — first follower
Five channels. Five zeros, gone.
I know how small those numbers are. That's not the point. The point is the crossing. A channel sitting at 0 is a channel that hasn't proven it can move at all. The jump from 0 to 1 is the only jump that changes the category — it turns "nothing's happening" into "something is." Everything after that (1 to 10, 10 to 1,000) is just more of a thing that already works.
Most people never get the first 1. Not because they can't — because they quit before the thing has had time to move. They read the zeros as a verdict instead of a starting line.
The zeros were never the verdict. They were the cost of admission.
02 — THE AI TOOL BREAKDOWN
How I keep these numbers honest
This is the part where most "building in public" accounts quietly start lying. The numbers get rounded up, the bad weeks get skipped, the screenshots get cropped.
The fix is to take myself out of it. I built a small automated pipeline that pulls the real numbers straight from the source — newsletter subscribers from Beehiiv, video stats from YouTube, traffic from Google Analytics — and drops them into a live scoreboard. No hand-entry where an API exists. The follower counts that don't have a free API (X, TikTok, Instagram) get a manual glance and a label that says so, so I always know which numbers are measured vs. eyeballed.
Why it matters: if the system reports the number, I can't flinch from it. A flat week shows up flat. A zero shows up as a zero until the day it doesn't.
The lesson: honesty is easier to automate than to maintain. Build the thing that tells you the truth on a schedule, and you don't have to rely on being disciplined enough to tell it on yourself.
That scoreboard is how I knew, this morning, that the last reach-channel zero had flipped.
03 — THE BINARY DECISION
The first 1 is the hardest
There's a decision hiding inside every zero: do you treat it as proof you should stop, or proof you haven't started yet?
Zero feels like failure. It isn't. Failure is a number that moved the wrong way. Zero is just a number that hasn't been given a reason to move. Those are different things, and confusing them is what kills most experiments in week one.
Every channel I crossed this week sat at 0 for days first. The TikTok was 0 through seven posts. The honest read in the moment was "this isn't working." The honest read now is "it hadn't worked yet."
Are you reading your zeros as a verdict (0)? Or as a starting line (1)?
The first 1 doesn't require talent. It requires staying in long enough for the thing to move once.
What's the zero you've been treating as a verdict?
04 — THE ESCAPE METRICS
Since launch. The honest scorecard.
Same rule as always: actual numbers, no adjustments, no "context" that softens them. Launch (May 3) → Now (May 24):
Newsletter subscribers: 1 → 2
YouTube subscribers: 0 → 1
X followers: 0 → 4
TikTok followers: 0 → 1
Instagram followers: 0 → 1
Blog sessions (30d): 0 → 46
YouTube views (long-form): 0 → 42
Revenue: $0 → $0 (expected)
The honest read: every audience number is now a 1 or better. The single remaining 0 is the one that's supposed to be a 0 right now — revenue. I'm not selling anything yet. That zero is on schedule.
Blog sessions went 0 → 46. That's the biggest mover, and it's the quietest channel — which tells me search and the written archive are doing work while I sleep. Worth watching.
CLOSING
That's Issue #3.
One more thing, and I mean it: thank you. Every number on that scorecard that isn't a zero is a person who chose to witness this before there was any proof it would work. You didn't have to be early. You were anyway. I don't reach the big numbers without the first few who showed up — and right now, that's you. So, sincerely: thank you for being one of the 1s.
If real numbers with zero filter are what you came for, hit reply and tell me. Replies are how I know this is landing — and right now, with a Skew Crew this size, yours actually moves the needle.

Next issue: the number I've been avoiding. I'm going to name my Number — the exact figure that equals freedom, the one that turns "someday" into a target. No range. No "it depends." The actual number.
Stack the 1s.
